DIY Flocked Christmas Tree

in DIY & Home Decor on 11/16/20

Flocked Christmas trees are so beautiful and I myself love them because they resemble the look of freshly fallen snow 🙂

I wanted to try a simple flocking technique on a tree I was going to donate to see how the process worked. Turns out, it was so easy and I’m keeping my tree! See tutorial below:

Here are the supplies you will need to flock your own tree:

  • Snow Flock Powder
  • A strainer
  • Spray bottle + water

Step 1:

Make sure your tree is fluffed and all of the branches are nice and separated. This will allow for each branch to be dusted with the flock powder. You will also want to lay down a drop cloth, because this can get a little messy!

I also taped off the plugins with painters tape just to be safe!

Step 2:

Spray a 12 inch by 12 inch section of water starting at the top of the tree. Make sure to get the section nice and wet. You don’t want it dripping, but you do want the branches to be wet. I also recommend working from the top of the tree to the bottom.

Step 3:

Add flock powder into your strainer and shake the powder over the 12 inch by 12 inch section you sprayed with water. The instructions say you can also spray the powder as you are shaking it over your tree branches. I didn’t find that made a huge difference.

Step 4:

Once you have you desired amount of powder on your branches, go over your 12 inch by 12 inch section with your spray bottle one more time. Again, do not spray too much water so that the branches are dripping, but make sure they are saturated.

Step 5:

Repeat steps 2-4 on your entire tree.

The below picture shows what your branches will look like using a smaller amount of flocking powder:

This picture below shows a larger amount of flock:

Do what you like best! I think the more flock powder the better!

Step 6:

Let your tree dry for 24 hours. The adhesive in the powder should be sealed and now you can decorate your tree!
