Powder Room Remodel

in DIY & Home Decor on 07/19/18

Our main level powder room was very outdated when we moved in.  I wanted this bathroom to be bright and white with some pops of color.  I also knew I REALLY REALLY wanted gray herringbone floor tile! Here are all the details on our Powder Room Remodel:

Full bathroom remodel, modern design with herringbone gray tile, white subway tile wants and black vanity

Before

Here are a few before pictures of this bathroom right when we first moved it:

Vanity

We purchases a beautiful black vanity from Wayfair similar to this vanity or this vanity.

I was debating between a black vanity or a gray vanity and after lots of going back and forth, we decided on black.  This vanity has slow close drawers and doors and had killer reviews on Wayfair so we knew we couldn’t go wrong with this purchase.

We bought $900 worth of Wayfair gift cards off of eBay at 10% off.  Those gift cards plus a coupon saved us almost $100 people! Buying discounted gift cards is SO EASY to do and we highly recommend it 🙂

Tile

Like I said before, gray herringbone floor tile was a MUST for this project. I seriously can’t contain how excited I am about this herringbone floor!! AHHH!  We chose 4X12 gray tile from a local tile shop in Rochester, MN and decided on white grout. I think it turned out AMAZING!!

We also thought it would be fun to use 3X12 white subway tile on the walls.  So we bought this tile from Home Depot and used a light gray grout. Love!

Prints

I found my prints from MyPaperHouseShop on Etsy.  Albina has bright and beautiful downloadable prints (see my Gallery Wall with Etsy Prints post here for more details on MyPaperHouseShop).  I wanted the prints to be bright and allow for the pop of color in the neutral space.

We purchased our white faux wood blinds from blinds.com.  I love Blinds.com because they have the best customer service and a wide variety of blinds.

We purchases the vanity mirror at Tjmaxx AKA my favorite place to buy mirrors, because they are unique, beautiful and so affordable!  We also custom made the L shaped shelf for above the toilet with a quick and easy DIY!

Full bathroom remodel complete with gray herringbone floor, white subway tile walls and black vanity! A modern, bright design with some pops of color!

This project was so much fun to design!  I absolutely love my pops of color and how modern the room looks now! Can’t wait for the next design project!

What tile shop did you purchase the flooring from in Rochester? Do you mind sharing the cost per tile? It’s so pretty!

Hi Ashley! We got the gray tile from Degeus Tile & Granite in Rochester, MN. I am thinking it was about $5-6 a square foot!

Love this! So pretty and what a difference. Doesn’t even look like the same bathroom. We are remodeling our small guest bath right now and I’m trying to find a light gray paint for the walls…would you mind telling me what paint color your walls are?
    Thanks 😊

Remodeling can also take on the form of revamping or adding a bathroom, redoing a kitchen, overhauling your home’s exterior for improved curb appeal, or completing an addition to increase your home’s square footage and add valuable space. Big and small changes can both have an impact and will improve the way your home looks and functions, increasing its value and making it more enjoyable for you and your family.

I like the metal trim you used on your wall tiles. If you would have to use chrome trim instead would you still go with the same wall color paint or would you go with a different wall color?

Hi Daisy! Chrome would be fun! I would probably still stick with the same wall color or maybe go with a little bit warmer gray like Repose Gray from SW. The colors are so neutral I think they would still look good. Are you using chrome hardware and light fixtures? That would be a good way to tie in the chrome throughout the space.

How did you mount your mirror? We’re remodeling our bathroom and I would love to hang our mirror down over the tile. People look at me weird when I say that, but obviously it can be done!

Hi Marcia! We actually mounted our mirror above where the wall tile stops. So we didn’t actually screw into the tile. You can drill into tile as long as you are on studs (or use a wall anchor and screw) and use a drill bit made for tile. I’m sorry I wasn’t much help! Thanks for following along on my blog 🙂

My tile was dicontinued and I got it at a local tile shop in Rochester, MN. Finding a tile in a matte gray color in the 4×12 size would give you a similar look. And white grout. Good luck 🙂

By installing tile flooring in your home, you can bump up the resale price and recoup some of the costs of installation when you sell.

Bedrooms are probably my favorite spaces to decorate because I love giving my clients a room where they can relax and feel at peace 🙏 If you think about it, you go to bed and wake up in your bedroom EVERY SINGLE DAY. If the space doesn't make you happy that means you are starting and ending your days in a negative state of mind... Who needs that? No one 😉

Home Decor PSA #4 (Yesterday was #3 I messed that Home Decor PSA #4

(Yesterday was #3 I messed that up🤦🏻‍♀️)

It's ok to choose function over beauty sometimes! Actually, most of the time😜 Your home isn't just for pictures on Instagram, it's where you live so sometimes choosing a specific layout, a more durable paint color, or a certain fabric for your sofa is just what you have to do!

For example:
1. You may choose carpet in your living room because your kids love rolling around and wrestling.
2. You choose a darker paint color because having light colored walls stresses you out with three kids🤪
3. The most comfortable sofa may not always be the perfect looking sofa 😊

If you use some creativity the functional option might also be the most beautiful 😊

In this photo, swivel, comfortable counter stools were a must for my client! Comfortable✔️ Swivel✔️ Still looks beautiful ✔️
